Answering Common Questions on 5-Star Dentistry

Here are 9 questions that we often hear from our patients and website visitors. If you have questions that we haven’t addressed here, please feel free to contact Dr. Christian directly by e-mail, phone or through our Ask the Doctor form.

Can you show me what my smile can look like ahead of time with imaging software?

We routinely use dental imaging to help our patients visualize the end results of your cosmetic or restorative dental treatment. By simply asking the right questions, taking various photos of your current smile, and keying in the correct information into the computer, we’ll generate a photographic image to demonstrate accurately how the procedure will affect your smile. In other words you get to preview just how it will look before you commit to doing anything!

Do you accept referrals?

We most certainly accept referrals from other dental offices as well as referrals made by our patients of their family, friends, and coworkers for those currently have no “happy dental home”.

Do you accept my insurance plan?

We work with all types of insurance. Our goal is to assist you in maximizing your insurance benefits so you are reimbursed in a timely manner (generally 2-4 weeks). In order to accomplish that, we will provide (to you) upon check out: the claim form, and when appropriate: a narrative, copy of the x-rays, gum and bone health charting, and photographs in an envelope addressed with postage affixed for you to simply drop in the mail.

We make your dental care financially comfortable. Our goal is to not let expense prevent you from benefiting from the quality of care you deserve and desire. We therefore have developed the following financial options:

  • Prepay courtesy (savings) for advance payment of the proposed treatment,
  • Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express, or
  • Easy financing.

How do I fit the dentistry into my budget when dental insurance covers very little?

We make your dental care financially comfortable so that expense does not prevent you from benefiting from the quality of care you deserve and desire. We therefore have developed the following financial options:

  • Prepay courtesy (savings) for advance payment of the proposed treatment,
  • Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express, or
  • Easy financing.

How can I directly ask one of the doctors questions?

We encourage all of our patients to have open, direct communication with the Doctors and team members.

Therefore, we are available to answer your questions either via e-mail, voice mail or through our Ask the Doctor form. In case of dental emergencies, the office voice mail after hours always has emergency contact information.

What precautions do you take to ensure patient safety?

Our entire practice team closely adheres to and exceeds excellent sterilization and infection control procedures as outlined by the American Dental Association and Centers for Disease Control. This goes beyond wearing gloves and face masks to prevent passing germs. It includes a specialized sanitation center and a water filtration system that guarantees a fresh water source for each patient.

I really don't like visiting the dentist. Is there anything you can do to help me relax?

We strive to create a relaxing atmosphere by understanding your concerns so that we can help alleviate them. We have CD players, iPods, foot warmers, warm paraffin hand softening treatments, blankets, and memory foam pads to help you relax.

If you need more than that, sedation dentistry may be the answer for you. We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for patients who are extremely anxious. We also work closely with an anesthesiologist for those who benefit most from I.V. sedation.

To restore teeth many factors must be considered.  Including:

  • The strength needed to properly restore the tooth in order to withstand the forces of your bite.
  • How long the patient desires the treatment to last i.e. a short term fix vs. a long term solution.
  • The esthetics (how good does the patient want it to look).

We can apply all dental crowns that are all porcelain, porcelain over gold, or all gold that will protect the tooth and restore it to proper form and function.  For large decayed or damaged surface areas, we can apply a protective covering, or onlay, adding strength and preventing decay. If you need fillings, we can use porcelain inlays to strengthen the tooth. And we can restore front teeth to natural shapes by applying paper-thin porcelain veneers.

Do I have to floss every day? Is it really that important?

It’s been said that you should only floss those teeth that you want to keep. And it’s true! A little regular flossing goes a long way and is truly critical for your overall oral health. It loosens food particles in tight spaces that your toothbrush cannot reach; it gets rid of plaque buildup that toothbrushes alone cannot remove; and it protects your gum tissues from irritation. It’s a safeguard against gum disease. So, just think of daily flossing as the finishing touch after brushing – insurance for your smile’s future.
